** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Bavaria in Minnesota follows the familiar seasonal pattern of other midwestern lakes. In spring the surface usually rises from the low 40s to mid‑60s °F (about 5–18 °C) as ice melts and air temperatures climb. Peak summer surface temperatures commonly reach the mid‑60s to upper‑70s °F (roughly 18–26 °C), with shallower bays warming more quickly. By autumn the water cools back toward the 40s–60s °F range (4–16 °C) as air temperatures drop. In winter the surface freezes and water immediately below the ice typically stays just above freezing, around the low 30s to upper 30s °F (0–4 °C), while the ice itself is at 32 °F (0 °C).
Swimming is generally possible during the warm months when surface temperatures are in the comfortable summer range, and many lakeside areas permit swimming where public access or beaches exist. However, local rules, water‑quality advisories (such as algal blooms) and posted signage can restrict or discourage swimming at times; in spring cold‑water shock is a hazard and in winter ice cover makes swimming unsafe except for controlled, supervised events. It’s best to confirm current conditions and advisories before entering the water.
