Location & Local Information
Lake Vrana on the island of Cres is a unique natural lake, hidden in the karst landscape above the sea. Because of its depth and position, the water remains relatively cool throughout the year. In summer, surface temperatures can rise to around 20–23 °C, but the deeper layers stay cold, which makes the lake less predictable for bathing compared to shallow coastal lakes. In spring and autumn, the water is much cooler, and in winter it is unsuitable for swimming.
Although the lake is visually stunning and of great ecological importance, it is not a typical swimming spot. Access is limited, and bathing is generally avoided to preserve the quality of the water, which serves as a freshwater source for the island. People more often come here to admire the view and the peaceful surroundings rather than to swim.
