** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Vagula (Vagula järv) in southeastern Estonia typically follows the seasonal temperature pattern common to Estonian mid- and large-size lakes. In spring the surface water is cold, often around 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as ice melts and the lake mixes. Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface temperatures commonly between 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) on average and occasionally rising toward 25–26 °C (77–79 °F) during heat waves. In autumn the water cools again, usually to about 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as air temperatures fall and turnover begins. During the frozen months the lake surface is ice-covered and the water beneath the ice stays near 0–2 °C (32–36 °F).
Swimming at Vagula is generally allowed and is a typical recreational activity in the warmer months where accessible beaches and shorelines exist. There are no widespread prohibitions on bathing, but local rules, posted signs and water-quality notices should be followed; municipalities sometimes monitor bathing sites and may advise against swimming after heavy rains or if algal blooms occur. In winter, ice-swimming is practiced by some, but it requires proper ice-thickness checks and safety precautions because of the obvious hypothermia and drowning risks.
