** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Tulloch, a reservoir in California’s Sierra Nevada foothills, experiences noticeable seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In winter (December–February) the surface typically runs around 45–55°F (7–13°C), remaining brisk even on mild days. Spring (March–May) brings gradual warming to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as inflows moderate and air temperatures rise. Summer (June–August) is the warmest period, with surface temperatures commonly in the 70–80°F range (21–27°C) and occasionally reaching the low 80s°F (27–28°C) during heat spells. In autumn (September–November) the water cools back toward about 60–75°F (16–24°C). Deeper water stays colder year-round, so temperature can drop quickly a few feet down.
Swimming at Lake Tulloch is generally permitted because the reservoir is used for recreation, including swimming, boating and fishing, but access and specific rules vary by marina, property owner and local authorities. Areas near marinas or shorelines are commonly used for swimming, yet hazards such as cold water shock, sudden depth changes, submerged objects and heavy boat traffic make caution important. Lifeguards are not typically posted at most spots, so swimmers should observe posted regulations, wear flotation when appropriate and avoid solo swims, especially outside the warmest summer months when water is most comfortable.
