*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Woodward Reservoir’s surface water temperatures change a lot through the year because it is a shallow, sun-exposed reservoir in the Sierra foothills. Typical winter surface temperatures run about 40–50°F (4–10°C). In spring the water commonly warms to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures rise. Summer brings the warmest surface conditions, often 65–80°F (18–27°C) on sunny days, though small, shallow bays can get a bit warmer. In autumn the surface usually cools back to about 55–70°F (13–21°C). These values are approximate and vary with recent weather, reservoir level, shade, and depth; deeper water remains noticeably colder year-round.
Swimming at Woodward Reservoir is generally permitted because the area is managed for public recreation, including boating, fishing, and shoreline activities. Recreational swimming is most comfortable in mid to late summer when surface temperatures are highest. Visitors should still be cautious: cold deeper water, sudden temperature changes, submerged hazards, and occasional algal or water-quality advisories can make swimming unsafe at times. Always follow posted signs and local guidance, and exercise basic water-safety practices such as not swimming alone and being mindful of cold-water shock when entering cooler sections.
