Camanche Reservoir’s surface water temperatures change with the seasons and with depth. In winter the surface typically ranges from about 45–55°F (7–13°C), rising in spring to roughly 50–68°F (10–20°C) as afternoons warm. Peak surface temperatures in summer commonly fall between 68–80°F (20–27°C), and during heat spells can briefly reach the low 80s°F (about 28–29°C). In fall the water cools again to around 55–70°F (13–21°C). These are general surface values; deeper water remains noticeably colder year-round, and temperature can vary by location, time of day and recent weather.
Swimming is allowed at Camanche in designated recreation areas and along many shoreline spots because the reservoir is managed for public recreation and water contact activities. Visitors should note that lifeguards are not always on duty, water quality and levels can change, and hazards such as boat traffic, sudden drop-offs and cold-water shock from colder subsurface layers can pose risks.
