*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Lida, like many shallow glacial lakes in western Minnesota, follows a clear seasonal cycle in surface temperature. In winter the lake is generally at or just below freezing at the surface when ice is present (around 32°F/0°C), with the water under ice only slightly warmer. Spring sees a rapid rise as ice melts, typically moving through the 40s–60s °F (4–16°C) range. Summer surface temperatures commonly reach the 70s °F, often about 68–78°F (20–26°C) on warm days and occasionally into the low 80s°F (27–28°C) during heat spells. By autumn the surface cools again through the 60s into the 50s °F (10–15°C) before refreezing.
Swimming in Lake Lida is generally permitted during the warm open-water months and is popular at shorelines served by resorts, private beaches, and public access points. Local authorities or property managers may post advisories or closures for short periods if water quality issues such as harmful algal blooms or bacterial contamination are detected, and of course the lake is not suitable for casual swimming when ice is present. Water that is under about 60°F (15°C) will feel brisk to most people, so swimmers typically favor mid-summer conditions; cold-water or ice swimming is undertaken only with proper precautions and experience.
