*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Emily in Minnesota follows the familiar seasonal pattern of inland lakes in the region. During winter the surface is at or just below freezing (about 32°F / 0°C) under ice, while spring brings a rapid rise from roughly 40–60°F (4–15°C) as the lake mixes and warms. In summer the shallow surface water typically reaches comfortable swimming temperatures, commonly in the range of 68–78°F (20–26°C) and on hot late-summer days can climb into the low 80s°F (26–28°C). Deeper water stays significantly cooler throughout the year, and by autumn the surface cools back toward 50–60°F (10–16°C) as mixing resumes and the lake approaches freeze-up.
Swimming in Lake Emily is generally possible where shoreline access and local regulations allow, and many people use it for recreation during the warm months because surface temperatures are usually suitable from late June through August. However, access depends on whether a particular shoreline is public or private, and authorities may post advisories for water quality issues such as harmful algal blooms or safety concerns. Open-water swimming is not feasible while the lake is ice-covered in winter, and even in spring and fall swimmers should be mindful that water can feel uncomfortably cold and increase the risk of cold-water shock.
