Lake Reno’s water temperature follows a familiar Midwestern pattern, with cool springs, warm summers and ice-covered winters. Typical spring surface readings climb from about 40–60°F (4–15°C) as air temperatures moderate, while peak summer surface temperatures commonly reach roughly 70–78°F (21–26°C) on warm, calm days in shallow areas. By early fall the surface usually falls back to around 45–60°F (7–15°C) as cooling nights set in. In winter the surface drops to freezing at or below 32°F (0°C) and the lake commonly develops ice cover, making open-water swimming impractical and unsafe.
Swimming is generally permitted at Lake Reno where public access points or informal beaches exist, but availability depends on local regulations, posted advisories and water quality. During summer months people often swim when temperatures are in the 70s°F (low- to mid-20s °C), but swimmers should be aware there may be no lifeguards and conditions can change with wind, depth and underwater hazards.
