** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Geneva in Minnesota experiences the typical seasonal swings of a temperate inland lake. In spring the surface often runs cool, roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake stratifies, while summer brings the warmest conditions with surface temperatures commonly in the 68–78°F range (20–26°C), occasionally rising toward 80°F (27°C) in heat spells. By autumn the water cools back toward 50–60°F (10–16°C) and then approaches freezing in winter, with surface ice and temperatures near 32°F (0°C) or lower. Deeper parts of the lake remain noticeably colder year‑round, so readings can vary by depth, weather and lake clarity.
Swimming is generally permitted and most comfortable during the warm summer months when surface temperatures are highest; many recreational beaches and private shorelines allow swimming when conditions are safe. However, local health advisories, boating activity, and the occasional harmful algal bloom or bacterial contamination can lead to temporary restrictions, so checking current notices before entering the water is wise. Winter swimming is not recommended for casual visitors because of ice and hypothermia risk, and any cold‑water or ice‑swimming should only be done with appropriate safety measures and local guidance.
