** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lobster Lake in Minnesota follows the seasonal temperature patterns typical of northern freshwater lakes. After ice-out in spring the surface water usually ranges from about 40 to 55 °F (4 to 13 °C) as the lake mixes and warms. In summer the surface commonly reaches roughly 65 to 75 °F (18 to 24 °C), with shallow bays or very warm years occasionally rising a few degrees higher. By early fall temperatures fall back toward the 45 to 60 °F (7 to 15 °C) range as air temperatures cool and the lake begins turnover. During winter most of the surface is ice or very near freezing, with water under the ice typically around 32 to 39 °F (0 to 4 °C).
Swimming is generally possible during the ice-free months when surface temperatures are comfortable, and many visitors swim from shorelines, docks or designated beach areas if available and open. Whether swimming is advisable depends on current conditions: water quality advisories, harmful algal blooms, beach postings, and local rules can restrict access, and early- or late-season water can feel uncomfortably cold below the surface. As always, swimmers should observe posted guidance, be cautious of cold-water immersion, and use flotation or supervision where appropriate.
