*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Kylemore Lough, located in the heart of Connemara in County Galway, lies beneath the Twelve Bens mountain range and beside the famous Kylemore Abbey. The lake’s water is fed by streams descending from the surrounding hills, keeping it fresh and cool throughout the year. In winter, surface temperatures usually average around 4–6°C (39–43°F), while in summer they rise to approximately 14–17°C (57–63°F). During particularly warm spells, shallow edges may briefly reach 18°C (64°F), but the deeper water remains cold even in mid-summer. The combination of mountain inflows, Atlantic breezes, and frequent rainfall helps maintain a consistently brisk and clear environment typical of lakes in western Ireland.
Swimming is permitted in Kylemore Lough, though it is not a designated bathing site and is better suited for experienced open-water swimmers. The lake’s depth, changeable weather, and cold undercurrents require caution, but on calm summer days it can offer a refreshing and scenic swim surrounded by striking mountain views. Most visitors, however, come to admire the scenery, take short walks, or enjoy boating and photography. Kylemore Abbey and its Victorian walled garden are the main attractions on the lake’s shore, and nearby Connemara National Park provides additional opportunities for hiking and exploring Ireland’s rugged west coast landscape.
