** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Dorena Lake, a reservoir on the Row River in western Oregon, experiences a typical seasonal cycle for low-elevation Willamette Valley waters. Surface temperatures in winter commonly range from about 40–50°F (4–10°C), keeping the water quite cold for prolonged immersion. Spring sees a gradual warming to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures rise and inflows moderate. Peak summer surface temperatures generally fall between 65–78°F (18–26°C), making the shallower, protected coves pleasant for brief swims on warm afternoons. In fall the surface cools back to near 55–68°F (13–20°C) before winter turnover returns the lake to colder conditions.
Swimming is permitted at Dorena Lake as part of its recreational use, but it is informal rather than lifeguarded and subject to common reservoir hazards. Visitors should avoid areas close to the dam, boat ramps and heavy boat traffic, and be aware that deeper water remains much colder than the surface—thermoclines and sudden releases can produce cold, dangerous currents. Because the lake is managed for multiple uses, water levels and quality can change seasonally, so swimmers are advised to exercise caution, wear flotation when appropriate and heed posted rules or temporary closures.
