*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Breimsvatnet in Vestland County, Norway, is a long, freshwater lake fed by mountain runoff and local rivers, and its surface temperatures reflect the cool maritime and alpine climate. Seasonal surface temperatures typically range from about 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) in spring (April–May) as snowmelt dominates, warming to roughly 8–12 °C (46–54 °F) in early summer (June). Peak summer (July–August) often brings the warmest conditions, with the surface commonly between 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) and occasionally touching near 20 °C (68 °F) in shallow, sheltered bays on very warm years. Autumn sees a rapid cooling to around 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), while winter temperatures are usually close to freezing, about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), and calmer inlets can ice over during cold spells. Subsurface water remains colder and weather, wind and river inflows create local variation.
Swimming in Breimsvatnet is allowed and commonly practiced in summer because Norway’s public access rights permit bathing in most lakes. Nevertheless, caution is advised: the water can be cold even in summer, with risk of cold-water shock, and some areas have deep drop-offs, currents near inflows or boat traffic. There are few formal lifeguarded beaches or facilities, so swimmers should choose sheltered, shallow spots, consider a wetsuit outside peak summer, check local conditions, and never swim alone.
