Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. *** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Altevatnet is a large lake in Troms County (Altevatnet) whose surface temperatures are generally cool throughout the year because of its northern latitude, depth and inflow from mountain streams. In winter the lake is typically at or near the freezing point, with water temperatures close to 0 °C (32 °F) and large areas often ice-covered. In spring the surface warms slowly, commonly ranging from about 1–6 °C (34–43 °F) as snowmelt feeds cold water into the basin. Summer daytime surface temperatures more commonly reach roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F), with occasional short-lived highs toward 18–20 °C (64–68 °F) in unusually warm spells. In autumn the lake cools again, typically falling to 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) before freezing resumes.
Swimming in Altevatnet is physically possible and frequently done by locals and visitors in summer, but it is not without constraints. As a reservoir influenced by hydroelectric operations, water levels and currents can change quickly near outlets and dams, so bathing close to infrastructure is unsafe. The water remains cold compared with more southerly lakes, so prolonged swimming without a wetsuit risks hypothermia; there are generally no lifeguards and access can be remote, so caution, flotation aids and checking local conditions are advisable. Winter swimming is uncommon except for controlled ice-plunge traditions, and only for experienced participants.
