*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hamilton, a town in South Lanarkshire, lies along the upper reaches of the River Clyde before it widens and flows toward Glasgow. In this section, the Clyde is still relatively narrow and fresh, with clear water running through wooded valleys and farmland. The temperature of the river reflects Scotland’s cool and changeable climate. During winter, it typically ranges between 3 and 5°C (37–41°F), remaining cold and fast-moving. As spring arrives, the water gradually warms to around 8–10°C (46–50°F). In midsummer, particularly in July and August, the Clyde near Hamilton can reach 14–16°C (57–61°F) on warm, sunny days, while shaded or deeper stretches remain noticeably cooler. By early autumn, the water temperature drops again to about 10–12°C (50–54°F), keeping a fresh, invigorating quality throughout most of the year.
Swimming in the River Clyde around Hamilton is possible but not common. The flow can be swift after rainfall, and the depth varies, so it is generally recommended only for experienced wild swimmers familiar with local conditions. Many people prefer nearby reservoirs or managed open-water sites for safer swimming. The surrounding area offers scenic walking and cycling paths along the Clyde Valley, as well as nearby attractions such as Chatelherault Country Park and the historic town centre.
