*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Salo, located in Southwest Finland, is home to numerous freshwater bodies, including several lakes and the Vähäjoki river system, offering ample opportunities for swimming. Swimming is freely allowed in these inland waters along accessible shores and at designated public beaches, a right secured by Finland's Everyman’s Rights. This principle ensures that the public can access and use natural waters for recreation. The City of Salo actively monitors the water quality and hygienic status of its official public beaches during the summer season, which typically runs from mid-June to mid-August, ensuring safe bathing conditions.
The water temperature in Salo’s lakes and rivers follows the characteristic seasonal pattern of Southern Finland. During the long cold period, from approximately November/December to April, the water bodies are reliably frozen, with temperatures beneath the ice consistently resting between 0∘C and 4∘C. The optimal period for comfortable swimming is during the peak summer months of July and early August. Surface temperatures in the shallower lakes and nearshore areas typically range from 19∘C to 22∘C in July. Outside of this warm season, the water is too cold for casual bathers, catering only to dedicated cold-water swimmers.
