Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lappeenranta, located in South Karelia in southeastern Finland, lies on the southern shore of Lake Saimaa, Finland’s largest freshwater lake. The city’s landscape is defined by its connection to the lake and nearby smaller water bodies, which provide ideal conditions for swimming and recreation. The water temperature varies through the seasons, following the typical Finnish inland pattern. After the ice melts in late April or early May, the surface temperature is around 4–7 °C (39–45 °F). During early summer, it rises to 13–16 °C (55–61 °F), and in July, the warmest period, the waters around Lappeenranta usually reach 18–22 °C (64–72 °F). Shallow bays and beaches may briefly exceed 23 °C (73 °F). By late September, the water cools below 10 °C (50 °F), and freezing begins again in November.
Swimming in Lappeenranta’s lakes is allowed and very popular during the summer months. The water is clean and safe, and the city maintains several public beaches, such as Myllysaari and Lappeenrannan uimaranta. The calm and scenic environment of Lake Saimaa makes it suitable for both casual swimming and water sports. Although the water can be cool at the beginning and end of the season, mid-summer offers warm, refreshing, and enjoyable swimming conditions.
