Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Kymijoki River, known as Kymmene älv in Swedish, discharges into the Gulf of Finland in the Uusimaa region. Swimming is generally permitted in the river's quieter and designated sections, guided by the Finnish Everyman’s Rights. This principle grants the public the right to access water bodies for recreation, provided they respect private property and the environment. However, due to the river’s significant current and the presence of rapids, swimmers must be extremely cautious, and public swimming is often limited to specific, monitored locations where the flow is safe.
As a major water system in Southern Finland, the Kymijoki's water temperature is seasonal but also influenced by upstream regulation. During the winter, from roughly December to April, the river is generally either ice-covered or maintains a cold temperature between 0∘C and 4∘C. The season for comfortable swimming is brief, peaking in July and early August. In these summer months, the surface temperature typically warms up to a range of 18∘C to 22∘C in slow-moving areas. Outside of this warm period, the water is cool, mainly appealing to cold-water enthusiasts.
