Melilla, an autonomous city located on the northern coast of Africa but politically part of Spain, has a Mediterranean climate that influences the temperatures of its coastal waters. During the winter months, from December to February, the sea temperature hovers around 15°C to 17°C (59°F to 63°F), which is relatively mild compared to northern European regions, but still too cold for most casual swimmers without protection.
As the spring season begins, the water gradually warms up, reaching around 17°C to 19°C (63°F to 66°F) in April and May. By the summer months, from June to September, Melilla experiences its warmest sea temperatures, with the waters rising to about 22°C to 24°C (72°F to 75°F), making it ideal for beachgoers and those looking to enjoy the sea. In the autumn months, from October to November, the temperatures slightly drop back down to around 19°C to 21°C (66°F to 70°F), offering still pleasant conditions for swimming.
