Water Temperature Trends
The Balearic Islands, located in the western Mediterranean Sea, enjoy warm and inviting sea temperatures for most of the year, making them a prime destination for swimming and water sports. During the winter months, from December to February, the water remains relatively mild compared to the Atlantic coast, with temperatures ranging from 13°C to 15°C (55°F to 59°F). While this is too cool for most casual swimmers, some enthusiasts and divers still find it suitable.
As spring progresses, the sea gradually warms, reaching around 16°C to 19°C (61°F to 66°F) by May. This marks the beginning of the comfortable swimming season, which peaks in the summer months. From June to September, the water temperature in the Balearic Islands typically ranges between 22°C and 27°C (72°F to 81°F), offering perfect conditions for beachgoers, snorkelers, and other water activities. The sea remains warm well into October, often staying above 20°C (68°F) until late autumn.
By November, the cooling trend becomes noticeable, but the Mediterranean waters around the Balearics still maintain a relatively comfortable temperature of 17°C to 20°C (63°F to 68°F), allowing for extended swimming opportunities compared to many other European coastal regions. The combination of warm waters, stunning beaches, and crystal-clear seas makes the Balearic Islands an ideal year-round destination for water lovers.
