Location & Local Information
The Vovk River is a right tributary of the Southern Bug in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, flowing through towns such as Derazhnya and Letychiv. Because it runs through a hilly landscape with mixed forests and meadows, the water here tends to stay rather cool, especially in shaded stretches or where the current is faster. During the summer months (July–August), the surface water in slower, sun-exposed sections can warm up to around 22–25 °C, while deeper spots or shaded areas usually remain cooler — about 18–20 °C or slightly lower after rainfall or colder nights.
Swimming in the Vovk River is possible, but mostly in informal local spots where the banks are gentle and the current is not too strong. These areas are suitable for refreshing dips on warm days, though there is no developed beach infrastructure. After heavy rains, the water often becomes muddy and the current stronger, so swimmers should take care and stay close to the shore. The river’s clear stretches on sunny days, however, make it an inviting and peaceful place for a short swim or to cool off in nature.
