** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Río Vinalopó runs through the province of Alicante in the Valencian Community and is characterized by an intermittent flow and shallow, slow-moving stretches that react quickly to seasonal weather. Water temperatures vary through the year: in winter the river commonly sits around 8–12 °C (46–54 °F), spring brings 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) as flows increase and sun warms the shallows, summer can raise surface temperatures to roughly 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) or even higher in isolated, stagnant pools, and autumn typically sees a cooling to 14–20 °C (57–68 °F). Local conditions such as recent rainfall, groundwater inputs and shading by vegetation produce substantial short-term variability.
Swimming opportunities on the Río Vinalopó are limited and dependent on location and time of year. Many urban and agricultural stretches suffer from low flows and variable water quality—nutrient runoff, occasional industrial discharges and treated effluents can affect safety—so recreational bathing is often discouraged or formally restricted in populated areas. In more rural upper reaches or isolated pools, locals sometimes swim in summer when depths permit, but those spots are sporadic and unmonitored. For safe swimming, official monitored beaches and municipal pools in the Valencian area remain the recommended choice, and visitors should heed local signage and public health advisories.
