The Lonja River in Croatia flows through the wide lowlands of the Sava basin and is known for its slow current and meandering course. Because of its relatively shallow depth in many places, the water warms up well during the summer, often reaching 22–25°C in July and August. Still, the temperature can vary depending on rainfall and water levels, since parts of the river are closely connected to wetlands and floodplains.
Swimming in the Lonja River is possible, but it is not as common as in larger rivers or lakes. In calmer stretches, especially where the banks are accessible and the current is mild, locals sometimes cool off during hot days. The atmosphere is very natural and quiet, surrounded by fields and forests, which makes it a refreshing experience away from crowded tourist spots.
