** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Megdovas (Μέγδοβας) runs through mountainous parts of Thessaly and is strongly influenced by altitude, spring melt and the presence of the Plastiras reservoir formed by damming in the basin. Water temperatures change markedly with the seasons and site: in winter the river and reservoir in shaded or high-elevation reaches commonly measure about 4–10 °C (39–50 °F), spring temperatures typically rise into the 10–16 °C range (50–61 °F), and in summer many accessible stretches and sheltered bays warm to roughly 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), with shallow, sun-exposed areas occasionally approaching 28 °C (82 °F). Local weather, flow rate and depth produce substantial local variation.
Swimming is generally possible in calm, designated parts of the Megdovas system—particularly in the Plastiras lake-like reservoir and quiet riverside spots—because water quality is usually good and conditions can be safe in summer when temperatures are comfortably warm. However, swimming near the dam, in fast-flowing sections or where signage prohibits access is unsafe or restricted; cold temperatures in spring and autumn increase hypothermia risk, and strong currents or submerged hazards make some stretches inappropriate for bathing. Visitors should heed local signs and guidance and choose sheltered, monitored areas during the warmest months for the safest experience.
