*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The river Pineios (Greek: Πηνειός) flows through Thessaly from the Pindus mountains to the Aegean, and its water temperature varies with season and location. In winter the river is cold, commonly around 6–10 °C (43–50 °F). Spring temperatures rise to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) as snowmelt and runoff increase flow. In summer the surface temperature in many stretches typically sits between 19–25 °C (66–77 °F), though shallow or slow-moving pools can warm to 26–28 °C (79–82 °F) on hot days. During autumn temperatures generally fall back to about 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) as air temperatures cool and flows stabilize.
Swimming in the Πηνειός is possible in numerous calmer, rural sections and in designated spots where access is safe, but it is not universally permitted or advisable along the whole river. Restrictions or warnings may apply near dams, irrigation channels, urban discharge points and fast-flowing reaches where currents, submerged hazards and variable water quality pose risks. Seasonal factors matter: cold winter water raises risk of cold shock, while summer algal growth or reduced flow can affect water quality. Visitors should follow local signage and guidance from municipalities or environmental authorities, choose sheltered stretches with gentle current, and exercise standard water-safety precautions.
