Water Temperature Trends
Thessaly, located in central Greece, is a region known for its beautiful coastline along the Aegean Sea. The water temperatures here are quite pleasant, especially during the summer months, when they typically range from 24 to 27°C (75 to 81°F). This makes the coast of Thessaly an attractive destination for swimming and other water activities. Popular beach towns like Volos and Katerini benefit from the warmth of the Aegean waters, offering clear, inviting seas for beachgoers.
In the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October), the sea temperature in Thessaly cools down a bit but still remains comfortable for swimming, hovering around 20 to 23°C (68 to 73°F). These seasons also bring a more relaxed atmosphere, as the weather is still mild, and the region is less crowded compared to the summer months.
During the winter months (November to March), the sea temperature drops to around 15 to 17°C (59 to 63°F). While it is not ideal for swimming, the cool, refreshing waters are still enjoyable for those who prefer a quieter, off-season experience along the coast. The relatively mild winter temperatures of Thessaly make it a great spot for scenic coastal walks and exploring the charming towns and villages by the sea.
