** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Wind Lake (sometimes referenced locally with lake identifiers such as “35”) follows seasonal patterns typical of midwestern shallow-to-moderate depth lakes. In spring (March–May) surface temperatures commonly climb from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the water mixes and warms. By summer (June–August) typical daytime surface temperatures are often in the 68–80°F range (20–27°C), occasionally reaching the low 80s°F in hot spells. In early fall (September–October) surface readings generally fall back to roughly 55–70°F (13–21°C). Deeper water below the thermocline remains substantially cooler year-round, often in the low 40s–50s°F (5–10°C). In winter the surface will approach freezing, around 32–39°F (0–4°C), and can be ice-covered for periods depending on conditions.
Swimming is commonly practiced in summer where shorelines, private properties, or public access points permit recreational use, because warm surface temperatures and calm conditions make paddling and bathing comfortable. However, swimmers should be mindful that cold pockets exist below a few feet, and early- or late-season water can be dangerously cold. Water quality advisories, algae blooms, and ice safety can restrict swimming at times, so checking local health or park authorities for current conditions and posted rules is recommended before entering the water.
