*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Browns Lake in Wisconsin experiences the same seasonal swings as many small inland glacial lakes in the region. In spring the surface water commonly warms from roughly 45–65°F (7–18°C) as ice melts and air temperatures rise. By summer the lake typically reaches its warmest, often about 70–80°F (21–27°C) at the surface on sunny days, though shallow bays can be several degrees warmer. During fall the surface cools back into the 50–65°F (10–18°C) range before stratification breaks down, and in winter the lake usually sits near freezing with surface temperatures around 32°F (0°C) where ice forms; under-ice temperatures remain just above freezing. Local factors such as depth, shading, inflows and wind can push these numbers up or down.
Swimming is commonly allowed at Browns Lake and is a popular summertime activity when surface temperatures are comfortable, particularly at public-access spots and private beaches. That said, whether swimming is advisable on any given day depends on water quality and safety conditions: occasional harmful algal blooms, elevated bacteria levels after heavy rains, ice thickness in winter, or local ordinances can restrict swimming. Visitors should heed posted advisories, observe beach flags and signs, and follow basic safety practices because permitted access does not guarantee safe conditions at all times.
