West Point Lake, located on the Chattahoochee River along the Alabama–Georgia border, is a large reservoir known for its clear waters and recreational diversity. Its water temperature reflects the region’s warm climate, offering a long season suitable for water activities. During winter, surface temperatures typically range from 48 to 55°F (9–13°C), cool but rarely near freezing. As spring approaches, the lake warms to around 60–70°F (16–21°C) by late April and May. Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface water temperatures usually between 80 and 86°F (27–30°C) in July and August. During autumn, temperatures gradually decrease to 65–72°F (18–22°C), maintaining comfortable conditions until late October before dropping again toward winter levels.
Swimming is permitted and very popular at West Point Lake, particularly in late spring and summer when the water reaches its warmest range.
