Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Walter F. George Reservoir, also known as Lake Eufaula, lies along the Chattahoochee River on the border between Georgia and Alabama. The reservoir experiences warm water temperatures for most of the year due to the region’s humid subtropical climate. In winter, surface temperatures generally range from 48 to 55°F (9–13°C), remaining cool but rarely cold enough for ice to form. During spring, the lake warms steadily to about 63–72°F (17–22°C) by late April and May. In midsummer, Walter F. George Reservoir reaches its seasonal peak, with surface temperatures averaging between 80 and 86°F (27–30°C) in July and August. As autumn arrives, the water cools gradually to 65–72°F (18–22°C), staying comfortable for recreation well into October before returning to winter levels.
Swimming is allowed and quite popular throughout the warmer months. The reservoir’s expansive shoreline offers numerous public recreation areas, sandy beaches, and campgrounds where visitors can safely enjoy swimming. The best swimming conditions occur between late May and early September, when water temperatures are warm and stable. Because the reservoir is part of a managed waterway, boat traffic and varying water levels can occur, so swimmers should stay within marked zones and follow local safety rules. Overall, Walter F. George Reservoir provides excellent opportunities for swimming and relaxation in a scenic southern setting.
