Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Jordan, located along the Coosa River in central Alabama, is a deep and scenic reservoir known for both recreation and hydroelectric power generation. The water temperature follows the state’s typical subtropical climate pattern, providing a long warm season for outdoor activities. During winter, surface temperatures generally range from 46 to 54°F (8–12°C), cool but seldom cold enough to limit fishing and boating. In spring, the water warms quickly, reaching about 63–72°F (17–22°C) by late April and May. By midsummer, Lake Jordan reaches its warmest conditions, averaging between 80 and 86°F (27–30°C) in July and August. During autumn, temperatures gradually decline to around 65–72°F (18–22°C), staying mild into early October before cooling again toward winter.
Swimming is permitted at Lake Jordan and is very popular throughout the warmer months. The reservoir’s calm coves, clear water, and sandy banks make it well-suited for swimming and family recreation. Public access areas and private marinas offer convenient entry points for swimmers and boaters. Because Lake Jordan is part of a managed hydroelectric system, visitors should remain aware of potential fluctuations in water level and boat traffic near the dam. Overall, the lake’s warm temperatures and inviting shoreline create ideal conditions for summer swimming and relaxation.
