*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Wapanocca Lake, located in eastern Arkansas near Turrell, is a shallow oxbow lake surrounded by wetlands and forest within the Wapanocca National Wildlife Refuge. Its water temperature changes noticeably with the seasons, reflecting both its shallow depth and the region’s warm, humid subtropical climate. In winter, the lake’s surface temperature typically ranges between 7–10 °C (45–50 °F). During spring, rising air temperatures and longer days warm the water to 15–22 °C (59–72 °F). By midsummer, Wapanocca Lake reaches its highest temperatures, averaging 26–31 °C (79–88 °F), especially in shallow areas exposed to direct sunlight. In autumn, the water cools again to 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) before gradually returning to winter levels.
Swimming in Wapanocca Lake is not recommended or officially permitted, as the lake and surrounding refuge are primarily managed for wildlife conservation rather than recreation. The shallow, vegetation-rich waters provide critical habitat for birds and fish but make swimming unsafe and impractical. In addition, soft sediments and dense aquatic plants can pose hazards to swimmers. While it is not a swimming destination, Wapanocca Lake remains an important natural site for birdwatching, photography, and fishing. Visitors can enjoy the lake’s peaceful atmosphere and observe its abundant wildlife from observation areas and walking trails.
