** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sardis Lake in northern Mississippi experiences noticeable seasonal swings in surface water temperature. In winter months the lake typically cools to roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C), while spring sees a steady rise into the mid-50s to low 70s°F (13–22°C) as air temperatures warm. Peak summer surface readings commonly fall between about 75–85°F (24–29°C), and during heat waves can briefly approach the low 90s°F (32°C). By fall the lake usually cools back into the mid-50s to mid-70s°F (13–24°C). These numbers vary by location on the reservoir, depth and recent weather; shallow coves warm and cool faster than deeper basins, and daily highs will exceed morning values on sunny days.
Swimming is permitted at Sardis Lake in designated day-use and beach areas, and many visitors swim there in late spring through early fall when surface temperatures are most comfortable. Most public swimming areas are unsupervised, so swimmers should assume there are no lifeguards and follow posted warnings. Changing currents, boat traffic, submerged hazards and occasional algal or water-quality advisories can affect safety, and cold spring or late-fall water can pose hypothermia risk even when air temperatures feel mild. Using life jackets, staying close to shore, and checking local conditions before entering the water are recommended.
