*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Upper Saranac Lake, in New York’s Adirondacks, experiences a wide range of surface water temperatures through the year. In spring (roughly April–May) surface temperatures commonly sit between about 35–60°F (2–16°C) as ice-out and warming progress. Summer (June–August) brings the warmest surface readings, often in the 60–75°F (15–24°C) range on sunny, calm days, though heat waves can push temperatures a few degrees higher. By early fall (September–October) the lake typically cools to around 50–65°F (10–18°C). During winter months the surface is at or near freezing when ice forms, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), and deeper water remains colder than the surface year-round.
Swimming in Upper Saranac Lake is commonly allowed and is a popular recreational activity in warm months because many shorelines, camps and public access points provide places to enter the water and the surface temperatures are pleasant in summer. Swimmers should be aware that deeper water stays much colder, there are no universal lifeguards at most sites, and boat traffic can create hazards. Water quality is generally suitable for recreation, but seasonal conditions, sudden weather changes and cold-water shock risks mean checking local advisories, choosing supervised or sheltered spots, and using flotation if uncertain are sensible precautions.
