*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Upper Chateaugay Lake in northern New York tends to run cool for much of the year because of its northern Adirondack location and often deep, clear water. Typical seasonal surface temperatures start in spring around 40–60°F (4–16°C) as ice-out and warming progress, rise in summer to roughly 60–75°F (16–24°C) at the warmest times of July and August, then fall back to about 50–65°F (10–18°C) in early autumn. By late fall and winter the lake is frequently ice-covered; water just beneath the ice will be close to freezing, roughly 32–39°F (0–4°C). Temperature stratification can mean surface readings are warmer than deeper water even in summer.
Swimming is generally allowed because Upper Chateaugay is a public freshwater lake used for recreation, but there are no widely maintained lifeguarded beaches and local regulations or access points may impose restrictions. Summer months offer the most comfortable conditions for casual swimming, yet swimmers should remain cautious about sudden cold pockets, variable depths, boat traffic, and limited emergency services in this remote area. Winter swimming is unsafe for most people due to ice and near-freezing water temperatures. Always check posted signage and take appropriate safety precautions before entering the water.
