*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Cranberry Lake in the Adirondacks exhibits a clear seasonal pattern in water temperature. In winter the lake is typically at or just above freezing, with water beneath ice commonly around 32–39°F (0–4°C). Spring brings a slow warming as snowmelt and cool nights keep surface temperatures in the neighborhood of 40–60°F (4–16°C). By summer, surface readings most often reach the upper 60s to mid 70s °F (about 20–24°C), and sheltered shallow bays can warm a few degrees higher on calm, sunny days. In autumn the lake cools steadily, dropping back into the 40–60°F (4–16°C) range before freezing again, with considerable variation depending on depth, weather and wind-driven mixing.
Swimming in Cranberry Lake is possible and commonly done during the warmer months, especially from shorelines near campgrounds and day-use areas, but it is largely informal and often unguarded. The lake’s northerly location, substantial size and shaded or deeper sections mean water can feel brisk even in summer, so swimmers should be prepared for cooler conditions than many lowland lakes. Winter ice cover makes regular swimming impractical and potentially dangerous except for experienced ice swimmers using proper precautions. In short, seasonal swimming is allowed in warmer weather, but conditions and limited facilities make caution and local awareness advisable.
