** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Turtle-Flambeau Flowage, a large reservoir in northern Wisconsin, experiences marked seasonal changes in surface water temperature. In spring the surface typically ranges from about 40–60°F (4–15°C) as the lake warms after ice-out. Summer surface temperatures are commonly in the upper 60s to upper 70s °F (around 20–26°C), with shallow bays sometimes reaching near 80°F (27°C) on hot, calm days; deeper water stays significantly cooler and a thermocline often develops. During fall the lake cools into the 50s–60s °F (10–18°C) before ice forms, and winter conditions under ice keep water near freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C) depending on depth and snow cover.
Swimming in the Flowage is allowed and is a routine recreational activity in warmer months because the area is publicly accessible and used for boating, fishing and lakeside cottages. Many visitors swim from shorelines, islands or docks when surface temperatures are comfortable, but caution is advised because cold pockets, sudden depth changes, submerged wood, aquatic vegetation and boat traffic can create hazards. There are few lifeguarded beaches, so swimmers should monitor conditions, use flotation as needed and consult local advisories for water quality before entering.
