** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Stora Le is a large lake in Värmland County (Stora Le in Swedish) with a typical seasonal cycle in surface temperatures. In spring, as ice melts and inflows cool the basin, water temperatures commonly range from about 2–12 °C (36–54 °F). During summer months surface temperatures often rise to roughly 15–24 °C (59–75 °F) on warm, sunny days, though cooler conditions persist in deeper or shaded bays. In early autumn the lake cools to around 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) before freezing begins in winter, when surface temperatures drop to near 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and ice cover is frequent in colder years.
Swimming at Stora Le is generally permitted and regularly practised, both from informal shorelines and at designated bathing spots, consistent with Sweden’s public right of access (allemansrätten). Water quality is often good, supporting recreational use in summer, but swimmers should be aware of local hazards: varying depths, sudden drop-offs, boat traffic on the larger stretches, and colder water below the surface. Ice swimming occurs in winter among experienced and well-prepared participants, but it carries significant risk and requires proper safety measures. As always, check local conditions and advisories before entering the water.
