*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Shamineau Lake’s water temperatures follow the seasonal patterns common to central Minnesota lakes. In winter the lake surface usually cools to around freezing, about 32°F (0°C) under ice, with water just beneath the ice remaining close to that point. Spring brings a gradual warm-up, often spanning roughly 35–60°F (2–15°C) as the lake mixes and warms unevenly. Peak summer surface temperatures typically range from about 68–78°F (20–26°C), and in shallow bays or during heat spells the top layer can briefly reach the low 80s (around 27–28°C). During autumn the lake steadily cools again, commonly sitting in the 45–65°F (7–18°C) band before refreezing.
Swimming on Shamineau Lake is generally possible where shoreline access is available, because it is a recreational lake used for boating and bathing. Suitability for a swim depends on the season, water clarity, and any local advisories about algae or bacteria; summer months offer the most comfortable conditions, while spring and fall can feel brisk and raise hypothermia concerns for prolonged exposure. Winter ice makes casual swimming hazardous except in supervised, intentional ice-swim events with safety measures. As with any lake, checking current water conditions and local guidance before entering the water is recommended.
