** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Alexander in central Minnesota follows the seasonal temperature pattern typical of shallow-to-moderate depth lakes in the region. During summer months surface temperatures commonly range from about 68–79°F (20–26°C), and on hot, calm days can approach the low 80s°F (around 27–28°C). In spring the water is much cooler, often in the 40s–50s°F (4–15°C) as snowmelt and runoff cool the lake, while fall surface temperatures usually fall back into the 50s–60s°F (10–18°C). By winter the lake is typically ice-covered and surface water sits at or just above freezing (around 32°F / 0°C); deeper waters remain cold and stratification can occur during summer so sub-surface temperatures are often lower than surface readings.
Swimming is generally permitted on Lake Alexander when open water conditions exist and local access points or beaches are available, but activities depend on seasonal conditions and water-quality advisories. In summer, public and private swimming are common because surface temperatures are comfortable, yet swimmers should heed warnings about algal blooms, bacterial contamination, or unsafe conditions issued by local authorities. In spring and fall the colder water increases the risk of cold shock and hypothermia, and in winter the ice must be assessed for thickness before any activity—official restrictions or advisories should be checked before entering the water.
