*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sea Gull Lake in northeastern Minnesota follows the seasonal temperature pattern typical of lakes in the region. Surface temperatures during summer commonly climb into the mid-60s to mid-70s °F (about 18–24 °C) at their warmest in July and August. In spring, after ice-out, water is much cooler, often ranging from roughly 40–60 °F (4–15 °C) as it gradually warms. Through September and into October the lake cools again, with fall surface readings commonly falling into the 45–60 °F range (7–16 °C). In winter the lake freezes or holds near the freezing point, with surface water at or below 32 °F (0 °C) and substantial ice cover common for months depending on the year.
Swimming on Sea Gull Lake is generally allowed when conditions permit, meaning during the ice-free months and where public access or private shoreline permits it. Many visitors and local residents swim in summer because temperatures are comfortable for recreational use; however, cold-water shock is a hazard earlier and later in the season when temperatures remain near 40–60 °F (4–15 °C). Water-quality advisories, designated beaches or resort rules can affect whether swimming is advisable at a given time, and ice and thin ice in winter make swimming unsafe until the ice fully melts and water temperatures rise.
