** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lago Scaffaiolo is a small high‑altitude lake in the northern Apennines on the border of Emilia‑Romagna and Tuscany, sitting around 1,700–1,800 meters above sea level. Because of its elevation and mountain climate, water temperatures stay low throughout the year. In winter the lake often freezes or hovers at about 0 °C (32 °F). Spring brings gradual thawing with surface temperatures typically in the range of 1–6 °C (34–43 °F). Peak summer temperatures are modest, usually reaching about 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) on the warmest days, and by autumn the water cools again to roughly 2–8 °C (36–46 °F).
Swimming opportunities are therefore very limited by temperature and practical concerns. While there is no widespread tradition of prolonged bathing here, brief immersions have been done, but are uncomfortable and potentially risky because of cold shock, rapid weather changes, and strong winds common at this altitude. In addition the lake lies in a sensitive mountain environment with conservation rules that may restrict recreational uses; visitors are generally advised to respect local regulations and avoid swimming both for safety and to protect the fragile alpine habitat. For most people, enjoying Lago Scaffaiolo is best done from the shore or on surrounding trails rather than by entering the water.
