** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Massaciuccoli (Lago di Massaciuccoli) is a shallow coastal lake in northern Tuscany whose water temperature varies strongly with the seasons because of its limited depth and proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Typical seasonal ranges are roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) in winter, 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) in spring, 22–28 °C (72–82 °F) in midsummer, and 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) in autumn. Because the lake is shallow, it heats up relatively quickly in warm months but can cool off fast with autumn rains and winter cold. Local conditions such as wind, rainfall and occasional algal growth or freshwater inflows also create variability from year to year.
Swimming is not a major or widely promoted activity on Lake Massaciuccoli and in several parts of the waterbody it is restricted for conservation reasons: the lake lies within a regional natural park and important wetland habitat where bathing may be prohibited to protect birds, reedbeds and water quality. Even where no formal ban exists, swimming is often discouraged because of muddy bottoms, dense vegetation, low visibility and intermittent water-quality issues. Visitors looking for recreational bathing commonly choose nearby Adriatic or Tyrrhenian beaches instead, and anyone considering entering the lake should check local signage and park regulations first.
