*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Salmon River Reservoir in upstate New York typically stays quite cool through much of the year because it is a managed, relatively deep impoundment. Surface temperatures after ice-out in spring commonly range from about 34–60°F (1–15°C). In summer the warmest surface readings are often in the 60–75°F (16–24°C) window, though cooler conditions persist in deeper water and shaded coves. By autumn the surface cools back toward the 45–60°F (7–16°C) range as air temperatures fall, and in winter the reservoir can sit at or below freezing (32°F/0°C) with widespread ice cover, depending on the season and year.
Swimming is not offered as a formally managed activity at most spots on the Salmon River Reservoir, and while people do swim in parts of the lake, it is generally not encouraged. Reasons include the persistently cold water that can cause cold-water shock and rapid loss of body heat, sudden depth changes and submerged hazards, boat traffic and a lack of lifeguarded, designated beach facilities, and potential access restrictions tied to shoreland ownership or reservoir management rules. For safety and compliance with any local regulations, swimmers should seek out approved recreation areas and follow posted guidance.
