*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Henderson Harbor, on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario in upstate New York, experiences water temperatures that vary widely through the year. In spring the nearshore surface waters typically run from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake sheds winter cold; by summer (June–August) sheltered harbor areas and shallow bays commonly warm to roughly 65–75°F (18–24°C), and on warm spells can reach 75–78°F (24–26°C). Early autumn sees temperatures dropping into the 50–68°F (10–20°C) range, while winter months often bring surface values near freezing, about 32–39°F (0–4°C), with ice and very cold conditions possible in severe winters. Open-water spots connected to Lake Ontario remain cooler than protected coves because of depth and mixing.
Swimming in Henderson Harbor is generally permitted in suitable places, particularly at designated shorelines and private docks, but it is condition-dependent. Local authorities or property owners may manage specific access, and safety factors such as sudden temperature changes (cold shock), boat traffic, underwater hazards, and occasional water-quality advisories determine when it is sensible to enter the water. Sheltered shallows warm faster and are more comfortable for casual swimming in summer, whereas spring and fall conditions can be brisk and winter swimming is hazardous without special precautions.
