*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Otisco Lake’s surface temperatures vary widely through the year. In winter the lake often hovers near freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), and may ice over at times. Spring sees a steady rise as meltwater and warming air push surface values into the 40–60°F range (4–15°C). By summer the shallow basin typically warms most days to comfortable swimming levels, commonly about 70–80°F (21–27°C) and occasionally reaching the mid-80s (around 29°C) during hot spells; however, deeper water remains noticeably cooler, sometimes 10–15°F (5–8°C) colder than the surface. In autumn surface temperatures drop back into the 50–65°F range (10–18°C) as cooling and turnover begin.
Swimming at Otisco Lake is possible and popular in warm months, but it is not universally unrestricted. Public access points and the county park provide places where swimming is allowed, yet most spots lack lifeguards so people swim at their own risk. Local authorities may issue advisories when water quality is poor; nutrient runoff can produce nuisance or harmful algal blooms in late summer, prompting temporary closures. Cold spring and fall waters also present cold-shock and hypothermia risks even when the air feels mild, so swimmers should heed posted signs, check current water-quality notices, and exercise caution.
