** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake of Jackson Reservoir in Colorado typically experiences cold water for much of the year because of its elevation and mountain-fed inflows. Seasonal surface temperatures commonly run roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C) in spring as snowmelt cools the water, warm to about 60–70°F (16–21°C) during the warmest summer weeks at the surface while deeper water stays much colder, decline to roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C) in autumn, and approach freezing in winter, often 28–34°F (-2–1°C) with ice cover common. Actual temperatures vary by year, weather, depth and exact location in the reservoir; thermal stratification in summer means the surface will be noticeably warmer than deeper layers.
Swimming is generally possible at many Colorado reservoirs including Jackson Reservoir, but whether it is allowed at a particular site depends on local rules, access, and safety conditions. Restrictions are sometimes in place because reservoirs serve irrigation or municipal water systems, because of private land access, or for public-safety reasons such as cold-water shock, boat traffic and underwater hazards. Even where swimming is permitted, the season for comfortable swimming is short and water remains brisk, so checking posted regulations and exercising caution (life jackets, not alone, awareness of cold-water risks) is advisable.
