*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Embalse de Quéntar, located in the foothills north of Granada, shows pronounced seasonal variation in surface water temperature due to its elevation and mountain-fed inflows. In winter surface temperatures commonly fall to about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F). Spring sees a gradual rise, typically around 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) as snowmelt and warming air raise the water column. In summer the warmer months can bring surface readings to roughly 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) on calm, sunny days, though deeper layers remain colder. Autumn cooling usually produces temperatures in the 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) range before the reservoir returns to winter conditions.
Swimming at Embalse de Quéntar is generally discouraged and in many cases restricted by local authorities. The reservoir serves as part of the water supply for Granada, so bathing is limited for reasons of water quality protection and reservoir management; additionally, steep banks, sudden depth changes and colder temperatures even in summer increase safety risks. While you may occasionally see people entering the water informally, official signage and municipal rules should be checked and followed, and organized recreational use is better sought at designated and supervised sites.
