** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Embalse del Negratín, in Andalusia, is a large earthen reservoir whose water temperature varies considerably through the year because of depth, inflow, and regional climate. In winter the surface can drop to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), while spring and autumn typically see temperatures in the 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) band as the water responds to milder air. Peak summer surface temperatures commonly reach about 20–28 °C (68–82 °F), though shallow bays warm faster and deep zones remain cooler. Local weather, reservoir releases, and recent rainfall can all shift these averages by a few degrees.
Swimming at Negratín is common but not uniformly regulated; there are few lifeguarded or officially designated bathing areas, so formal permission and facilities may be limited. Authorities often restrict or discourage swimming in reservoirs for safety reasons — sudden depth changes, submerged hazards, boat traffic and cold-water shock — and sometimes to protect water quality for supply and ecology. As a result, visitors who choose to swim should check current local rules and signage, take safety precautions, and be aware that conditions can change quickly despite generally pleasant summer temperatures in shallow zones.
